That's right! A "virtual" race! I love the concept. Here's what you need to know.
TO PARTICIPATE:
- Go to my Train4Autism donation site HERE and donate $5 (or you can email me to send me cash or check donations. Face to face donations work well, too.) If you have already donated, just tell me so.
- Come back here, tell me you donated and print out your very own bib for the race. (Totally optional, but fun. Bibs are at the bottom of this post.)
- Run or walk 3.1 miles on your treadmill, outside, on a track, by yourself, with your friends, whilst dribbling a basketball, juggling or whatever way you want to do it. Just do it!
- Tell me about it! Report back and let me what your finish time was. If you feel so inclined, send me a picture of you before/after your run, a pic or your Garmin or treadmill reading and/or just tell me how it went. I would love to hear! (Just as a warning- any pics may end up on my blog.) ;) Just let me know that you did it! You can report back here as a comment on this post or send me an email to aliciaruns @ hotmail.com.
- Await the results! I will post everyone's 5k results on my blog on June 11th (my BIG race day!) and will also be raffling off fantastic prizes from these fine companies. You can see a full list of prizes HERE.
So, get to it already! You can run/walk your 3.1 anytime between now and June 10th. (All finish times need to be in to me by June 10th at midnight.) Good luck! And thank you in advance for helping me meet my goal.
GET YOUR RACE BIB, just click and print! Be sure to give yourself your favorite number. :) |
*Bloggy buddies can help me out by posting about this virtual race on your blog. I'd greatly appreciate it! :)
Yay!!! Not only do I LOVE virtual races but autism is something dear to me. My sister worked with early intervention for children with autism. Part of some of the children's socialization was to come to our family's house every other week to make dinner and play games with us. I got to know these children in such a way that I fell in love with them! Most of them are grown but I still tear up when I see how far they've come! One was a ring bearer in my sister's wedding and is now in his junior year at college. Pretty amazing since his primary form of communication started off with hitting and screaming! Good luck on your fundraising! I donated and put it on your scroll as Fancy Nancy!!!
ReplyDeleteOh and I'm including this race on my three things Thursday so check it out later!
ReplyDeleteCount me in, sounds fun and the door prizes, YAY! I am so printing a bib. What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI just donated and am excited about your virtual race! June 10th will be my first tempo run of a new training cycle, so I'll run it as your race. Just the jump start I needed to train hard this summer.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to following your blog as well.
Kim
I've donated and although I can not run I am seriously considering hobbling this. Does hobbling count? Great idea girl!!!

ReplyDeleteIn honor of autism awareness, I chased Tiger when he went running away from me- not sure on the distance but it felt long enough! :) 17 minutes for him- 23 for me. We donated- not much but hey, we've got lots of ketchup to still buy :) Great Job Alicia and an excellent cause- LOVE our KIDS!
ReplyDeleteI totally have wanted to do this ever since you first posted, and now I have put it off until the very last day. I will be run/walking it tomorrow. Hope you make your goal!!! I think you are a super fantastic Mommy! Love you Alicia

ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this; my 3yo son has ASD so this means a lot. If I'd known sooner, I would have participated but we have a 1/2 on Sunday & my Achilles is acting up so I'm resting today :S but thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI just emailed you my results! I seriously need to participate in virtual events more often. I totally pushed it harder than my usual training runs! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteMy son was 3 when he was diagnosed. He is now 9 and has made HUGE strides. Good luck to you!
ReplyDeleteFinished my second 5K for the cause since Bobbette was unable to get on her feet. It is a great cause, Alicia.
ReplyDeleteHey Alicia, I boffed this up royally and thought I had until today to enter. If you are willing to count it, I did a 5K on 5/28 in 39:04 or I ran one for you today in 41:04. I totally understand if I'm too late. Thanks! I hope your marathon went great!
ReplyDeleteAlicia, I technically didn't do a "5K" because I was pacing the Utah Valley Half Marathon on Saturday. If you'll count it, I did the run in 1:50:13. I'll have a full blown recap of the run on my blog soon.
ReplyDeleteMan, I need to catch up on my google reader more often. I've been buried with everything for about four weeks, though. I have to say ... you're flippin' awesome. Amazing. I wish I found 20 of you last year.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sam! I'm doing my best. :)
ReplyDeleteI'll take it!
ReplyDeleteYay, mom!
ReplyDeleteI donated!!!! I emailed you my 5K results. Hope I'm not too late.
